Next week we will begin the Discovery simulation, which is exciting! We have three teams ready to venture forth from England to try to settle in the New World. Who knows what adventures await them?
Speaking of adventures, IslandWood is coming up FAST. That week can be a bit confusing:
- Remember, there is NO school on Monday, Jan. 16.
- We leave for IslandWood on Tuesday morning, Jan. 17.
- We get back to Suquamish about 1 pm on Thursday, Jan. 19.
- There IS school on Friday, Jan. 20.
Regarding the 20th, the fifth grade teachers understand the students are pretty worn out after IslandWood, so we tend to keep Friday low-key. I plan to do some review activities in math, a debrief with thank you notes the rest of the morning, and art all afternoon on Friday.
The other big thing coming up is the social studies Classroom Based Assessments (CBAs). We will start those next week, and I plan to have students do their presentations March 6-10. If you go to the elementary page and look under social studies, you will find LOTS of materials for the CBAs.
We're ready for the new year!
