For those of you who are wondering "why?"--The truth is I was originally hired in to teach 4th and 5th in North Kitsap's gifted program. Then the very next year the district moved the 6th grade from the junior highs to the elementary schools, and my job changed to teaching 5th and 6th.
Five years ago the district changed again, moving the 6th to the middle schools from the elementaries. I didn't want to go, but it made sense for the program for me to move, so I did. I worked hard to be the best middle school teacher I could be. But I kept waiting for an opening to appear in the elementary program. And it did!
So now I'm coming full circle, back to my first school and my first love--teaching elementary gifted. I get to teach math and science again, not just English and social studies!
Even better, I have a teaching partner this time. Between us, Colleen Fairchild and I will share about 60 third through fifth graders. Her homeroom with have 3rd and 4th grade students, and mine will have 4th and 5th. We will group students for reading, writing , and math. And we've already started talking about the units we want to do for social studies, science, and health.
I'm so excited for the coming school year!
