- the library has many books
- the Kragen class folder has links to many pages with suggested topics
- parents have ideas too!
We have finished growing plants for our class science experiment, which we did as a model for the student projects. Now it's time for the students to pick the topic for their own projects. I told them to look for ideas in three places:

What an amazing Friday! The weather was gorgeous at the Long House. Eating lunch on the lawn and looking out over the Sound was such a treat.
Ask your child about the best part of the first week of school. I asked the class and got a dozen different answers. You should hear what appealed to YOUR child. Please go to the Parent Resource page. I have updated the calendar for the year as well as the two documents: "Teaching and Grading Writing" and "Teaching and Grading Math." You want to read those. If you haven't read them before, you will also want to read the AGATE expectations (on the same page). For those who didn't make it to the Parent Curriculum Night last night, I have a couple of other housekeeping items:
The first Back to School Night is the one for the whole school (parents and children are invited):
Tuesday, September 5th From 6-6:45 you get to tour the school with your children, meet teachers, visit the classrooms, and drop off supplies. From 6:45-7:30 join the staff outside on the playground and black top for food and fun as we kick off our school year. If you can't stay the whole time, that's okay! This is a come and go event, but the classrooms will close promptly at 6:45 pm. The second Back to School Night is just for AGATE parents (no children please--there won't be enough room): Thursday, September 14 Starting at 5:30 pm, Mrs. Fairchild, Mrs. Taylor, and Mrs. Kragen will meet with parents of their students in their classrooms to introduce themselves and the new school year. You will hear about curriculum, policies, and procedures, including how we communicate with parents. You will get information about field trips and how to volunteer in the classroom. We hope to see you there! |

From Education Week--According to the latest research, the two best predictors of college success are not grades and intellectual ability. Number one is “conscientiousness” (dependability, perseverance, work ethic). Number two is “agreeableness” (interpersonal skills, getting along with other people, working well in groups).
From what I’ve observed, I would say the same is true for life after college—jobs and careers, marriage and family life. Success comes more easily for people who are willing to work hard and who are able to cooperate with other people. |
